L- Glutamic Acid

Vital for the function of human body

What is L- glutamic acid?

L-glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the blood stream and it is very important for the
function of the human body, as it is the main carrier of nitrogen and vital for most metabolic
processes. Most of it is stored within the muscles, making it especially important for muscle recovery, prevention of infections correlated with exercise, as well as for post-surgery recovery, explaining why it is considered a ‘conditionally essential amino acid’. It is found in both plant and
animal protein, however most people do not get sufficient amounts from food. Thus, L-glutamine
supplementation is often necessary and leads to the following health benefits: reduced muscle
breakdown during and following intense exercise; reduction of blood infections; speeding up wound healing; improved gastrointestinal health; enhanced brain health and reduced risk of brain problems such as Alzheimer’s, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression and epilepsy.

What the experts say.

“Glutamic acid is an amino acid used to form proteins. In the body it turns into glutamate. This is a chemical that helps nerve cells in the brain send and receive information from other cells. It may be involved in learning and memory. It may help people with hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid) or achlorhydria (no stomach acid).”
